Bitumen-coated pipe

A bitumen-coated pipe is a steel pipe with a protective layer of bitumen applied to its outer surface.

This coating serves as a reliable shield against corrosion and the destructive effects of external factors such as soil moisture and aggressive chemical environments.

Most often, this type of protection is used when laying underground utilities, where corrosion resistance is of paramount importance.

Bitumen coating performs several key functions:
  • Corrosion protection: Bitumen creates a waterproof barrier that prevents metal from coming into contact with water, salts, and other corrosive agents, which is critical for underground pipelines.
  • Mechanical protection: The bitumen layer also provides additional resistance to mechanical damage, such as impact or friction, which can occur during transportation and installation.
  • Increased durability: Bitumen-coated pipes have a significantly longer service life, as the protective layer effectively prevents premature deterioration of the steel.
Areas of application:
  • Water supply systems: to protect pipes from the effects of groundwater.
  • Oil pipelines and heating networks: in the oil and gas industry to protect pipelines during the transportation of oil, gas, and other products.
  • Sewerage systems: for the disposal of wastewater that may contain aggressive chemical impurities.
